Wheaton is about 30 miles from Chicago, but there are many amenities found within the city limits. Wheaton College is just east of the downtown area, and a campus of the Illinois Institute of Technology is also found here. Wheaton is one of Chicago’s more conservative suburbs, and there are 45 churches located within the city.

Visitors and residents alike will have ample things to do in Wheaton. The Cosley Zoo is a popular place for families to visit, as it offers five acres of native Illinois animals. The First Division Museum is located inside of Cantigny Park, and it offers exhibits on the infantry and classic war machinery. The French Market is a popular place to shop on a Saturday morning, and for a night out, residents may enjoy grabbing dinner at Ivy Restaurant, Steamboat BBQ, or GIA MIA Pizza Bar. The Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College is another popular destination within the community.

Unique weather conditions occur with each season in Wheaton. Some of the most extreme weather patterns arrive in May and June, as storms with the potential for tornadoes are possible. The summer months heat up to average daily highs in the 80s, and thermostat readings will stay this high until the end of August. When high temperatures combine with high humidity levels, it is important that residents have a place to cool off, and central air conditioning is a popular home cooling method in the region.

Winter weather in Wheaton is cold and snowy. The average daily high in January is only about 30 degrees Fahrenheit, which is below the freezing point. Many Wheaton residents are choosing to upgrade their less efficient furnace systems with high-efficiency models. The Department of Energy reports that homeowners will save more money on fuel bills over the life of a high-efficiency AFUE product compared to less efficient systems. Tax credits and other incentives may be available to homeowners who install these furnaces.
